Join Nome PTA today!Who can join the Nome PTA?
Everyone can join the PTA! PTA membership is open to anyone who cares about the education, health and welfare of Nome's children and youth. What are the benefits of joining PTA? There’s no better way to find out what’s happening in your child's school. PTA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, building rapport and discussing issues that are on your mind. You can share ideas, concerns, and experiences. PTA can also be a way for you to more effectively suggest change at your child’s school. By volunteering with your PTA, you put your skills and hobbies to use for a noble cause—your child and all children in the community. What are some examples of PTA activities? PTA has helped to foster a welcoming environment in the schools by providing refreshments at Back to School night, organizing coffee hours with the principal and sponsoring activity tables at community Family Fun Nights. We’ve provided “perfect attendance” awards for students. We have been a vital part in administering reading incentive programs at the elementary school. PTA volunteers have helped out with hearing and visions screenings and TB testing for students. For the past few years we’ve served a hot breakfast to students at Nome Elementary during state testing week. We sponsor the Nome Spelling Bee, including sending the winners to Anchorage to compete at the state level. We provide scholarships to Beltz graduates. PTA representatives have served on school and district improvement plan committees, various curriculum committees and the district’s strategic planning committee. How can I become a member?
